History
Since opening in August of 1999, the Onyx Ice Arena has served as the home of the Rochester Hockey Club, Suburban FUNdamental Hockey, Onyx Adult Hockey Leagues, Onyx Learn to Skate Program, Onyx-Suburban Skating Academy, and the Champions of America skating program. The Onyx is also the home arena for the Rochester United and Stoney Creek varsity high school teams, several high school "club hockey" teams and the men's Oakland University Golden Grizzlies.
Designed by Rosetti Associates of Birmingham, and built by Frank Rewold & Sons of Rochester, the Onyx is managed by Suburban Sports Group of Farmington Hills. The state-of-the art facility contains three NHL-regulation sized ice sheets, a full service pro shop operated by B & R Sports, concession stand, skate rental and meeting areas. |
